Bright Stars of Bethlehem is a U.S.-based nonprofit raising awareness and support for Dar al-Kalima University, the only university of arts and culture in Palestine. Wuerffel redesigned the Bright Stars website to increase visual content and SEO. This increased visibility and time on site and improved overall metrics. Wuerffel co-led a team of interns to Bethlehem to document the story of Bright Stars and Dar al-Kalima University. The team produced several videos that featured by Bright Stars in their fundraising and awareness efforts. Wuerffel also consults on communication strategy, including social media analysis.

The history of Project Neighbors follows a long list of needs discovered and opportunities taken. Our broadly written mission, “to strengthen the Valparaiso community by addressing issues of race, class and poverty, we strive to create healthy families and neighborhoods, where diversity of of all kinds is welcomed and cherished,” has allowed Project Neighbors to engage in a wide rage of actions: housing, healthcare, daycare, public discourse, education, economic development and human relations. As an active board member, Wuerffel documents Project Neighbors’ community work, wrangles their social media platforms, designs newsletters and proposals, and develops social media fundraising campaigns.
Social Media Design & Wrangling: One of Project Neighbors’ goals is to develop quality, affordable housing in the increasingly expensive city of Valparaiso, Indiana. Affordability requires volunteer support, and volunteer support enhances the community. Social media is one key way of encouraging volunteers for construction projects while simultaneously encouraging public conversation about affordable housing and growing community and donor support.
Photo/video: Fresh and evergreen photos and video content are key to delivering the message of Project Neighbors to existing donors, volunteers, and advocates, as well as gaining interest from new audiences.
Print: Newsletters and proposals require attentive design for readability and engagement. Project Neighbors’ annual newsletter is the most reliable fundraising appeal in large part because it demonstrates what the organization is doing on a day-to-day basis. The Freedom Recovery Fund is a new initiative to increase Black wealth and reduce the wealth gap. Working with individuals and banks, Project Neighbors is growing Black wealth in Northwest Indiana.
